Bhawal National Park with an area of about 5,022 hectares was declared as protected area through the Bangladesh Wildlife (Preservation) Order, 1973 and subsequently enacted and amended in two phases as the Bangladesh Wildlife (Preservation) (Amendment) Act, 1974. On May 11, 1982, the Bhawal National Park was Notified, by the Ministry of Agriculture and Forest under the power of section 23(3) of the Bangladesh Wildlife (Preservation) (Amendment) Act, 1974 under the notification 11/For 64/81/318. It is a source of very important genetic resources in the region. The park is located at 240 20’ N to 240 100’ N latitude and 900 22’ E to 900 28’ E longitude in the District of Gazipur. It embraces lands located in the Mauzas of Arishaprashad, Bishayakuri Bari, Baraipara, Bankharia, Uttar Salna, Baupara, Bhahadpur and Mohana Bhabanipur. It comprises of seven forest beats namely (1) Park Beat, (2) Bankharia Beat, (3) Baupara Beat, (4) Rajendrapur West Beat, (5) Baraipara Beat, (6) Bhabanipur Beat, and (7) Bishayakuri-Bari (B.K.Bari) Beat.
The Forest Department, under the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, GoB is implementing the project "Feasibility Study for Biodiversity Conservation and Ecotourism Development in Bhawal National Park (1st Revised)" in Bhawal National Park, Gazipur. The primary objective of this initiative is to assess the environmental, physical, and economic feasibility of biodiversity conservation and ecotourism development within the park. Additionally, the project aims to formulate a comprehensive Master Plan to guide the long-term management and sustainable development of Bhawal National Park. EQMS Consulting Limited has been entrusted with conducting the feasibility study and developing the Master Plan for this initiative.
